Curriculum
Students who prefer part-time study will take fewer online classes during the year and participate in a third Summer Residency.
This cohort-based program allows students to learn together. This model creates a bond between students, as well as a sense of community. Our hope is that our students will continue to stay in touch, and even collaborate, after the program, both personally and professionally.

Curriculum Features
The M.A. in Studio Practice for Art Educators (Hybrid) curriculum is taught by our acclaimed faculty. Coursework includes pedagogy, a variety of studio art courses, research, professional practices, critiques, and self-evaluation.
Some of the courses that you’ll take during the residency will be more theoretical, but that doesn’t mean they are separate from studio practice. Studio practice in contemporary art is not always materials-based; it is often very conceptual and idea-driven. It’s about the relationship between people and people interacting with each other.
Dr. Olga Hubard, Director and Associate Professor of Art and Art Education, Teachers College, Columbia University
The program supports your development as a studio artist and equips you with the tools needed to continue to effectively teach the next generation of artists across the globe. Graduates who already hold NYS initial certification and who meet other requirements for professional certification may use this master’s degree to apply for professional certification on their own. Out-of-state applicants should check with their Department of Education.
